I fell in love with my best friend.

I’ve had a few habits
ever since I was little kid
and she knew them.
We became friends when words had no meanings,
and gave them meaning together.
I met her when I was eight,
covered in mud like a four-year-old.
We became friends because she cleaned me.
She sat down beside me
and cleaned me till four past noon
and then we giggled for an hour
because she’d gotten muddy in the process.

When I buy a new book,
I place my head on the flat front
Of the paperback
And fall asleep
She knew that.
She was still surprised when I fell asleep
on her lap for the first time.
I recite poetry to the moon
and it proofreads them for me.
except on 20th March 2017
when she helped me with it.
Since then, we read it together
and once done, we chat with the moon.
He loved our muddy tale.
I am obsessed with keeping my books
completely clean.
But I still have two pages
that she altered for me.
One has a ‘yes’ written on it
and the other a lipstick stain.

Like I said, I had a few habits
ever since I was a little kid
and I met her when I was eight.
